Against All Odds: Ryan Sawlsville

Ryan,

Against all odds (and in the midst of some non-believers), you rose to the challenge and succeeded . . . in a major way. Chris and I couldn’t be any prouder of you than we are today. And I must say, as your body shrunk, YOU grew as a person.

You have taught us all (and yourself) that there are NO excuses.

Like I have told you MANY times, you have and will continue to inspire others to be the best they can be. Chris, myself, and the rest of the Powell Pack are grateful for the incredible time we got to spend together and for the memories we were able to create.

It was an honor to be a part of your journey ☺.

We love you, Ryan!

Ryan’s story really spoke to me. I too am going through a long weight loss journey. It has been challenging, not only with having over 250 #’s to lose, but I also have COPD as well as a bone fusion in my lower back. So exercising can be difficult. Seeing how capable Ryan is without his left arm, & what he achieved in his journey has really inspired me to keep going in my own journey So far I have so far lost 110 pounds, so I’m almost half way through. When there are times I feel discouraged or want to quit, Ryan comes to mind, which always helps to re-motivate me. I want to thank you & Chris for everything you both do, you guys are such genuinely caring, very compassionate people. You both have helped me to start transforming my own life for the better, & I want to thank you for that!

OMG I truly loved this episode, I got to watch this online as Im in Australia, Ryan was truly inspirational to me proving to me all my excuses to date are so invalid! Ive lost around 50kgs myself and have just finished studying Cert 3&4 in fitness, I still have a while to go on my journey through having some set backs along the way but after watching this episode Im ready to continue with no excuses now! :)

I have to agree with everybody. When I saw this program, I finally understood I have no reason not to exercise and every reason to lose the extra weight. There is no excuse in the world I can use. Ryan was a true inspiration with his determination to succeed.

I really loved Ryan’s transformation/story/journey! I myself have been struggling with my weight for years. I’ve been addicted to food, making excuses, and always using the “I’ll start monday” line for so long, I’ve ballooned to 360lbs at 28 years of age. Soda’s are one of my biggest enemies. But, after watching you and chris’s show and seeing Ryan do so much more with one arm than most do with two arms was amazing and inspiring! Just want to say thanks for bringing so much hope for people like me. Seeing everyones transformations makes me look forward to being alive, happy, and more healthy. Time to break these chains that have held me down for so long now! Much love to you guys!! God bless

I actually watched this show, I don’t usually because I cry through the show. The transformation was amazing. Even more so Ryans all out determination was awe inspiring. He really did show us there are no excuses. I just hope that I can use his inspiration.

This story just blew me away. What a huge inspiration and such great motivation. Even with his disability he never once let that stand in the way. He never gave excuses, he is truly a person to really look up to. I am doing a 90 Day Challenge and one of my own personal goals is No Excuses, so this story was huge for me. Showed me that I can truly do anything I believe in and put my heart to.

This story has kicked started my life again as a healthy person again in life after being sick for a couple of years. Ive made excuses for a while now and have gradually gained more and more weight after seeing Ryan’s story I have turned my life back around. Just in the last couple of weeks I have lost inches and am training a friend of mine at a near by park and my apartment. My friend has already lost over 10lbs. Ryan reminded me of the person I used to be that no matter what life’s situations do not have to stop you in your tracks. In fact it can bring you to over come other issues and become the person you are supposed to be.

I was really inspired by this episode…if he can ride a bike with one arm, what’s stopping me from conquering my weight problem? One thing that I took away from it is that I shouldn’t use protein shakes as my go-to as much as I have. Pretty scary.

  17. Danielle - July 16, 2013

This story is the ultimate lesson in not letting excuses, challenges or fear keep you from achieving your goals and reaching your full potential!!

Loved Ryan’s story. He is such an inspiration. I cried when he rode his bike.

  21. Chris Howard - July 15, 2013

What a great transformation. Ryan kicked but and when he fell down he got back up. I thinks what you and Chris teach is very important for everyone to know… a transformation is more than losing weight. Its more about taking control of your mind.

Ryan was one of my favorite episodes. You can tell he was going above and beyond to change himself inside and out. I was telling my daughter that I can see him as a motivational speaker. The words he spoke about the way he’s feeling now, I’m sure, is doing a lot for people as we speak. Thank you for such a great, inspiring show.

    Hi Heidi,
Fantastic coaching job by both you and Chris! You must feel so proud! I also am curious, because they didn’t show much of the family having to struggle through the process WITH him. Was his family really as supportive as they seemed? I was really impressed that they did seem to have no obstacles in the process!

His family is great! So glad you enjoyed the show. :)
