Perfectly Imperfect: The Series…and the Shirt!

Okay, before I get started… best shirt ever, right?! I’m in love. More info at the bottom of the post on how you can get one, but if you just can’t wait until the end, click here and let’s be twinsies ;). Now for the meat…

It?s been a little over a year and a half since I first blogged about being perfect?perfectly imperfect, that is. I shared more in my follow up posts, I Am (Still) Perfect?and Wonder Woman?s Secrets, and I must say, I?ve never had a more overwhelming response. Your comments (that continue to pour in, even months later) have touched, moved, and inspired me, and continue to remind me on a daily basis of the power of these messages.

We are ALL perfect in our imperfect states. In a world saturated with social media and online-everything – looking too-perfect-to-be-true – it?s hard to believe that imperfection is actually perfection. So much value is seemingly placed on the sexy selfies we take, the places we visit, the ?experiences? we have, and the successes we portray. I will be the first to say that social media, blogging, and most anything online tends to only portray the happy, easy, and beautiful parts in my own life. Like you, though, I am normal ? I want to be loved and accepted like everyone else. I yell at my kids, I fight like a madwoman with Chris every now and then, and I oftentimes am embarrassed to find myself enviously stalking others’ Instagram accounts.

We are all human and we all have flaws ? some physical (like my bunions and lazy eye), and some flaws that cannot be seen. These imperfections do NOT make us unworthy, unfit, or not-good-enough?AT ALL. In fact, they make us human?they keep us striving for self-betterment, they give us tools to help others, and they make us beautiful. They make us perfectly imperfect.

Now, pulling ourselves outside of the wide world of web, this same concept is so perfectly (can you tell I love this word?) fitting for the game of transformation, and is something we talk about with every single person we work with. The journey we embark upon will never be ?perfect? in the sense that we won?t mess up. Nope. It will be (and always is) far from perfect in that way. We caution them that there will be bumps, bruises, and many mistakes made along the way. There will be days, and maybe even weeks, where they fall off the bandwagon and find themselves digging for cookies in a Ben and Jerry?s pint of ice cream after one slice of pizza turned into the whole pie. We show them that we will NEVER be ?perfect,? but that we are all perfectly imperfect. Once we realize this, we can start to love and accept ourselves the way we are TODAY, and then the world becomes our oyster and the skies open up for us. We begin to see that all of our imperfections (even the bad choices we made in our life) are there for a reason. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. Some are there to teach us a lesson, some are there to humble us. Regardless, each imperfection makes us so unbelievably perfect.

We are all God?s artwork, and are perfect in our imperfect forms.

So you can see why I am so passionate about this message. It truly has changed my own life, and I love hearing how it has changed the lives of others. To carry on this message, I am starting an entire ?Perfectly Imperfect? series for my blog. I have handpicked some amazing bloggers, influencers, and friends that I admire to share with all of you what ?perfectly imperfect? means to them. Every month we will get to hear from these special guests as they share their personal stories and perspectives in hopes of enriching and inspiring more lives.

  1. Hey! I know this is kind of off-topic however I needed to ask.
Does managing a well-established blog such as yours require
a lot of work? I am completely new to writing a blog
but I do write in my journal everyday. I’d like to start a blog so I will
be able to share my personal experience and feelings online.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for brand new aspiring bloggers.

    Appreciate it!

    1. Hi Andy! What an awesome thing you’re wanting to do! Our best advice would be to just start small and simple. Go with a free platform to start, and just be you. That’s what will attract your readers. And a blog can take as much work as you’d like to put into it, but it’s not necessary to get started. We wish you all the best!

  2. REPOST……

  5. Heidi,

I love this series and the shirts! I am ordering one today! I have dealt with trying to be perfect most of my life, until I finally realized there is no such thing as “Perfect”. My husband preached a sermon once which talked about our struggle with sin and he said we could never be perfect but we can strive for an imperfect progress.

  6. Thank you Heidi.. I have held on to a reply you provided me with 2 years ago on Facebook. I was so surprised to hear from this “star” tv host! I felt so privileged. Thank you for taking the time to touch base with me. I’m 44 and still struggle tremendously with my bulimia and body image. Hearing from you provides such insight, courage, and strength for me. Your words are so real and sincere. I believe whole heartedly in perfectly imperfect, yet acceptance of it is truly difficult… Look forward to hearing more… Cristela

    1. Yes! Our supplier is working hard at keeping them in stock, so please check the website regularly. Those shirts have been so popular!

  7. Heidi – I struggled with anorexia for ten years and somehow survived, got married & just had my second baby. I admire your strength so much & have always looked up to you! Your such a great role model for so many wives & mamas. Kate
