“Portion distortion” is a WIDE spread epidemic in the Western world. There’s a natural draw to bigger portions at cheap prices, because for us that equals better value. It’s become all about getting more for our money. But unfortunately, this price is not right, and this comes as a hefty cost. These super-sized meals and portions have changed our culture and how we view food.
Here’s a couple scary facts to take a look at:
? Just 100 extra calories a day equals almost a pound a month and 10+ pounds a year.
? 500 extra calories a day equals one pound a week, four pounds a month, and 52 pounds a year!
Kind of scary, isn?t it? And what does this lead to? Ever expanding waistlines, our children not understanding what a true portion is, and a multitude of health issues: diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many forms of cancer.
While it’s true the ignorance is bliss, it is also true that knowledge is power! After reading this blog and studying the portions above, you will have the tools to avoid your own case of portion distortion!

What 100 calorie snack do find tends to be the most filling? Sometimes while snacking, I catch and have to remind myself the snack is not a meal…but need something that feels satisfying.
