Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. Emma CHRIStina Powell. Or depends on if you want to name her after some one special. Or CHRIStina blank Powell. Something that flows nicely or has special meaning and yes, keep in mind the initials… lol

  2. I named my daughter after my parents. My dad?s name was Ken (who died just before she was born) and then used my mother?s middle name Rae. So her name is Kendra Rae.

You could use your names and name her after Chris and name her Kristina and call her Kristi (that?s my name) and then use Heidi?s middle name. (sorry Heidi I don?t know what your middle name is)

  3. ADI My husband and I had a similar situation, only in reverse. We had 3 girls first, then a boy. Our girls all had names ready for them…our boy was nameless for three days after he arrived!! 🙂 I understand the dilemma. I love old-fashioned names that will be rare when they are in their high school years. If you want to stay with C’s, I think Camilla is pretty….Callie…Corinne, or Callia… Celine (although, that might be a musician name). Other names that I think are cute for a girl are Molly, Ginger, Rosie, and Mahala (pronounced Ma-hay-la). 🙂 Whatever you name her, she will be loved by her family…that’s the best gift a baby can have waiting for them. Maybe you could even wait until she is born and just study her to let a name sort of “choose itself”, so-to-speak. It worked for our third little girl. We didn’t have a middle name for her, and when she came out, she was purple, and 9 lbs…she looked like a little blackberry. So, we named her Mora, which means “Blackberry” in Spanish. 🙂 I can’t wait to see photos of little Miss Powell. I’ll be praying for an easy labor. Blessings!

  4. I’ve been reading through the names and I’m voting for Lurline’s suggestion of:

    Cassidy Paige Powell

I do also however like some obscure girls names such as, Carson, Coraleigh, Colter, Collins, Chase, Charlie, and Morrissey.

    Morrissey Grace
    Carson Jane
    Colter Faith

    Good Luck Heidi and Chris
My husband and I are just starting with baby #2 due in May.

  5. How about Lennon?

This is my daughter’s name. I’m trying to think of a great middle name, but all I can hear in my head is my daughter’s middle name (Annelle, named after her grandma). But it would fit in as far as using a musician’s names.

    Good luck!

  6. Baby girl names have to be my favorite to come up with… I have 3 girls and 2 grand daughters.
So of course it’s their names I love.
But the name I’m going to submit is Kambri because it has been the most fun with nicknames. We call her Kam and also Bambi Sooo cute!!!
Good luck and congratulations. What ever you choose you have been given a gift.

  7. Kids can be very mean, but to be honest even picking a name that has few to no obvious teasing opportunities kids will find something to tease your child about if they want to. I have three children (a girl and two boys) My daughter was the easiest for me to choose a name for (Emily). I chose this name after a little girl I baby sat for years that was from my second family growing up. Whatever you decide will be perfect for your little angle. I know the old fashioned names are coming back in style and I know its my name, but there is not really much you can tease DeziRe’ about it. I try to choose names that have strong meanings and DeziRe’ means longed for and desired.

  8. Margit, that is the name of my mother, she died 25 years ago at an age of 36. I always wantend to name my own child Margit, but i don’t have and will have children. I wish you and your family all the best! Love you!
