Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. Paige Nicole Powell. I have always just loved this name! I love you and Chris Powell. You have been such an inspiration so I will put it out there. My kids are grown and I do not need baby names anymore 🙂 . Congratulations to both of you.

  2. Hi, I’m very proud that my parents gave me the name Mich?le, even wen i’m 40 years old(-: We tryd 1000 names for my sons…by screaming it outsite(-: Think your kid on a playground an its dinertime… (-; Good luck by finding the right name!

  3. My girls are Madeline Grace and Libby Ann… Both named after special people in our lives. If you want to tie another name, how about Trinity? Neo’s love interest in The Matrix… or to stick with a “C” Carrie-Anne who played Trinity… double score! So… my suggestions are Trinity Hope Powell and Carrie-Anne Powell 🙂 Good Luck!

  4. I love Matix & Marley and I think Cash and Carli (Carly, Carley, Carlee) would fit together nicely. 😉 We didn’t find out the gender of our baby, but our girl name was Carli. Alas, we had a beautiful, charming boy we named Tanner. Which, btw, Tanner would be cute for your girl too but totally out of the sequence with the rest of the kids 🙂

  5. Heidi and Chris , I’m answering in reply to your baby name dilemma ? I have given some thought and considered a few possibilities … Ok … so if you are taking sweet little Cash’s feelings into consideration a wonderful name for your baby girl that would sound beautiful rolling off our tongue and also look beautiful on paper as well as making Cash feel completely connected with sharing a “C” name is … Drum roll please …. How about Carson ? Carson and Cash sounds adorable together . My second suggestion for you is giving this baby a totally different spin with staying grouped with the letter P as in Powell . I just love the names Piper and Pilar . Piper Powell or Pilar Powell would set this new baby on its own new spin . Best wishes to you , Chris , and all of your beautiful children . Many blessings to all in welcoming this little miracle !

  6. My daughter’s name is Lakota Faith. no, you will not find it on pencils or cups
But I researched her name for a long time while I was pregnant with her… it means ‘friend’ in the Lakota Language … have a healthy baby girl… congrats

  8. No advice on names except in the end if you think a name is right then it is right no matter what you think anyone else will think. Regarding what others thing, however, we did NOT tell our parents or family any of the names we were considering until the baby was born. My theory–having watched others–that people will come up with some reason why ANY name is bad BUT if you hand your mother your new daughter and say, “We’ve named her Cheesedoodle Honeythump,” your mother will think that Cheesedoodle Honeythump is the most lovely name she’s ever heard in her life. (Everyone in the family thought our daughter’s name, Meredith was lovely. They all hated the name we’d chosen for a boy–Jacob–so….there you go 🙂 )
