Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. I love the name chloe. That’s what we named our twin daughter. Our other twin baby name is Zachary. Yup we had a boy and girl. Raising twins is hard but so rewarding. I love your show. Itd so great you help so many people. Good luck with the name game

  2. Hayley Sofia Powell

The H for Heidi, you and your little princess should share the same letter. 🙂 I associate ‘Hayley’ with something pure, like fresh snow. Might be because it sounds like the Swedish word for holy/sacred, ‘helig’. Hayley just sounds like a nice person. 🙂

And Sofia is an international name, deriving from the Greek word for ‘wisdom’ – by chance or not, all the Sofias I know are smart.

Wish you all the best and have fun choosing a name. And don’t worry – you’ll make the right decision no matter what you choose. 🙂

  3. Ayla……. Or I love the name Charleigh for a girl!! Congrats girl!! My family loves your show…. And my husband gets mistaken for Chris all the time, they could be twins!

  4. Serenity Hope Powell

Here is my thinking. The Serenity prayer is one of my favorite prayers, I tell it to people when they are going through a hard time. Chris & you are a great example of this praye; how you might ask. Here goes “God grant me the serenity to except the things I can not change, courage to change the things that I can, & the wisdom to know the difference.” Chris & you help people to except the things in life they can not change weather that be the death of a loved one, the lose of a job, just something that has happened or is happening & they have no control over it. Yet you help them to have the courage to change the things that they can, for example their healthy. As for the middle name Hope. I think that speaks for itself. When looking at the prayer, we need Hope to get us through the things we must except & we need Hope to get us through the courage things we want to do. This little angle, like all your other kids is being raised in a loving home so when they grow up thanks to your parenting they are truly going to touch the world in their own way & make it great. You are amazing parents. Well, that is my vote, Serenity Hope Powell. It just goes well with the phase of life you both are at right now with all the people you have reached out & touched. It is a name fitting an angle:) Congrats to you both on your sweet baby girl to come:) & thank you so much for sharing your family with all of us & for sharing so much support & help. You are truly amazing people. God Bless You:)

  5. I love the name Camryn for a girl. Camryn Joel…you have the “C” so Cash doesn’t feel left out. Joel for Billy Joel hence the musician, but it isn’t a first name so Matix doesn’t feel the odd one out. Was going to name my last child that, but was blessed with another little boy 🙂

  6. I agree, to balance out the Powell Pack there needs to be another H name. My personal favorites are Harley, or Hailee. For middle name, I would use something strong. And you can’t get anything stronger than Catherine the great.
    Harley Catherine Powell
    Hailee Catherine Powell
If didn’t like her name she could go by Cate for short, which is super cute. Also incorporating another C name if you choose to go that way.
