Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!
I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.
Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?
As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?
Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.
I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!
Other Things to consider:
Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?
Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?
So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!
Comment away!!!!

We named our daughters, Laylah & Alexandria (we call her Lexi for short). I picked out Laylah’s name because I am half Persian & it’s a Persian name, it means ‘dark/night’ and we felt like it sounded like a Persian princess. My husband picked Alexandria because I liked “Lexi” but he wanted her name longer and just use Lexi for short, so he came up with Alexandria, it’s Greek and sounds powerful and beautiful (like a Greek goddess).
Heidi, Congrats on the new little one. I have always liked Amelia and Gwendolyn for names. As far as C or M names…Carleigh and Meriden are some of my favorites. Good luck picking names…it is hard to make sure that the name fits your daughter, it is unique, not too popular that there are a bunch of kids with the same name, and something you like.
Something not Common My Girls are
Alijah Destiny And Erin Makenna
I like the idea of a ‘C’ name. How about Carstyn?
Here are my suggestions for you:
First name: Jovi Significance: I was working in the NICU a few years ago I think, and I came across this beautiful, peaceful little Jovi. I have no idea if the parents were big Bon Jovi fans or not. It just sounded joyous to me. And the baby shop has closed for me, so I’m passing it on;) And you could ask any NICU nurse the names you shouldn’t name your baby if you want them to be happy and healthy. True story:)
MIddle name: For our kids we went with grandparents names, or people of significance to you. No real idea for you here other than if your last name starts with P, probably don’t want the name to start with an I. People call me hammy because of my initials, i’m okay with it. But I can see the JIP thing being an issue. For some reason Ella sticks out.
Last name: Powell, its a strong name like the both of you!
Good luck!!!!!!!
Heather Ann Moeller
Her are some suggestions…Lyla, Kyla, Penelope Powell. ;-). I know she’ll be beautiful!
After many years of infertility we were finally blessed through adoption with a baby boy! He is now 11 years old and our family is complete. So with not having a girl I have never been able put some of my favorite girl names to use. My niece has one of the most beautiful names: Kaelyn although it starts with a “K” I am sure you would be able to spell it with a “C”. Although my other favorites are Carly (could be after Carly Simon) or Chloe.
I think Cash will feel left out if the new baby has an M name. My oldest feels left out cause she is the only one that doesn’t start with a K. Some of my fave girl names Addison, Arie, Auna, Charlie, Corra, or Ella
My name is Tana and I think it’s very unique and everyone always comments on it! It’s pronounced like Montana just not with the mon. Haha. A “C” name for a baby girl that’s cute is Camden! Quinn is another cute one as well!
Hi Heidi!
Congratulations on a baby girl!!! I recently found out that I have PCOS, and chances are slim of having children. But I have always wanted a little girl and would like to name her after the two most important women in my life – my mother and my best friend. I found it especially fitting, as my own mother also named me after her best friend. My husband and I have committed to trying a few infertility drugs, but even at that, our chances are only 15%. Should we be successful in having a baby, and should we have a little girl, I would name her Katrina Maria.
As for you, I would suggest you look to names that have a special meaning to you – after a beloved friend, family member, etc.
Congratulations again and best of luck picking the perfect name for your little girl!
