Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. How beautiful another gorgeous soul entering this world and how luck is she to have amazing parents like you both.. I know I had a hard time choosing names for my 3 angels worrying about them being teased etc.. I think I chose well as my children have not had to deal with any name teasing so far.. My son is 15 his name is Jaxon, My daughter who is 13 her name is Ellah-Rose and my youngest daughter who is 9 her name is Phoebe Olivia…. I am sure you will both come up with a lovely name that your beautiful baby girl will love and never want to change… x

  2. Why don’t you think about an Italian name?? to make a different choice!! I can suggest you some names starting with C: Camilla, Carola, Cleo, Clara, Cristina….We love you also in Italy!!

  3. My daughters were given names that had special significance to their father and I, and we chose to give them two middle names. My eldest is named Vivienne Mikayla Jordane, the first name being after my paternal grandmother and the two middle names being generational initials passed down from my great-grandfather to me. My youngest is named Sasha Rosalie MorCaena, Sasha being her dad’s choice after a favorite author’s daughters name and Rosalie being my maternal grandmothers name (MorCaena is two Irish names put together). The names have special meaning, not just because they are family names but also because of what the names mean. Perhaps going with a family name or a combination of two names (perhaps one starting with a C) or one that is of special significance. I dont think kids think about their names starting with different letters than their siblings honestly. My husband, who has 3 children from his previous marriage, has two daughters who’s names start with M but his son’s name starts with an E. I know that I had a few names picked out, but when I saw my daughters I knew which name would fit them. I also like the idea of giving them 2 middle names to have choices when they get older. My first name is Mellisa, but no one in my family (including my own mother) calls me that; they all call me by my middle name, Jennifer. Whatever choice you and your husband make will be the right choice. Best of luck with your decision 😀

  4. How about using a totally different letter…Guess you need a vowel to make some kind of word so you can have a unique Tat of children…That is if you like tats that is…lol
Obelia….means a pillar of strength like Mom and Dad
Ailyn …intelligent, beautiful woman with a good personality and with a big heart
    Elara…moons of Jupiter
You get the idea!! Anyway cant wait to see your new little pumpkin Good Luck I know whatever name you and Chris choose will be unique and great in itself!!!!

  5. Baby names were always something that was fun coming up with. We have two girls and a boy. Our daughters names are Karsen and Elisabeth and our sons name is Jameson. We went with cool and unique names that ou don’t hear on a daily basis.
All three of our kids too have unique names that you don’t often hear. I would stick with that. And if you feel like you should stick with a “C”. Charlie is a unique unisex name. I also like Claire, Carlie, Chloe, Corey.

  6. Carsynn Powell sounds amazing together. I absolutely love the name,it’s just a fun name and its a name you can change the spelling many different ways, this is the one I like best for a little girl.

  7. I think you could go with a ‘k’ name and still achieve the Matix/Marley Cash/?alliteration. Of course I’m partial to Kristi (or Christi to keep with ‘C’) but also think Katilyn is pretty. She could be Katie for fun, and Aunt Kate when she gets older.

    Good luck!

  8. I would definitely go with a C name, but I’m pretty orderly and I like symmetry! I like Calla (like the lily) Mae Powell or Calla Lynn Powell 🙂
