Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  3. Congrats on another sweet baby girl. 🙂 What a blessing!! Good luck on picking a name. My husband and I were able to pick our girls names really easy but when our son came around–it was SO hard but we finally decided on one when I was 8m preggo (i thought it was never going to happen hehe). My name suggestion is……
    Catalina Elizabeth Powell
When she is little she can be called Cat and when she gets older Catalina is a strong name 🙂 Elizabeth is also a classic/elegant name and your guy’s last name is fabulous. I think it flows great 🙂 🙂 Best wishes!!!!! 🙂 🙂

  4. Congratulations on baby girl Powell! My daughters name is Callahan…I love it because it is not common… And it’s a C name!

  5. Well, my legal name is Catherine, which my parents chose because it is so versatile. They wanted me to have a name that was not embarrassing as a full name so if I wanted to use it as an adult I could, or could be shortened to a nickname. I grew up being called Catie, and though I prefer Cate as an adult, everyone knows me as Catie, and it seems to work for my personality. My parents do call me Cates, though, so that gets that check in the box for me. You could call her Catherine, or go Catie (Caitie, Caty, Katie, Katy … so many ways to spell it), Cate (Kate), Cathy, Cat. The possibilities on this one are limitless. Plus this eliminates the music question for Matix, and keeps it in the C’s for Cash. So I submit my name for consideration! Plus, Catherine Powell has a nice ring to it, and there are a lot of awesome ladies in history with the name Catherine. 😀

  6. Our “Sweet” girls are Kylie Allison and Kinley Elisabeth. We have a boy thrown in the middle for fun, Cameron. Enjoy the journey of sifting through names, your baby girl will love hearing the stories later!

  7. I love Zali Grace Powell
We were going to name out daughter tht but when she came out she looked like a grace so she got that name instead.

Or my name is Elise Maree. I never got teased about it, the only thing I got was Elise Maree Christmas tree.
    Or Addison Jane Powell?
I also knew a girl called Charissa if u want to stick with the C theme. Hope you don’t find it too hard, I’m sure you will find the perfect name whatever you decide!

  8. If you want both “C” and “M” names included, so none of the kids are left out, you could always have something like “Madeline” (or Maddie for short) as a first name. Then your girls would be Maddie and Marley. A middle name would then be “C”, like “Claire”.

    Madeline Claire.

You could always switch them around, too, for whichever letter you want first.

Also, I’d suggest what the initials would look like.
Madeline Victoria Powell translates to MVP! Think about that… 🙂

Love you Heidi! Good luck choosing a name!

  9. My suggestion Is Patience Destiny Powell. I am a fan of the name Patience for a girl because it is a virtue but not the common ones life Faith and Hope so it gives it a unique twist. I also think that the word Patience fits both you and Chris and the patience you both take in helping others and each other. and Destiny because you both help others on the right path to achieving there destiny.
I used the name Patience for my daughter she is Patience Marie.
