Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. First of all, CONGRATS on #4! How awesome!!
My suggestion is: Caelyn – a Gaelic name meaning “loved forever” or “pure”

  2. As Alicia posted earlier, whatever name you choose for your daughter, make it meaningful to your family & strong. As far as a suggestion, I think “Phoebe Powell” has a nice ring to it and Phoebe means “bright & shining”. Good luck in whatever name you choose and Congratulations to you & your husband/family! What a blessing! 🙂

  3. I think you should name your little girl Caitlyn. It starts with a C so she can be just like her older brother Cash. It’s not a name of anyone famous but of she takes after her mom and dad she can make it famous on her own.

  4. I think that your children will not feel left out but will feel very grateful to have such loving parents that love them so much. You guys are great parents and it really up to you guys what you name your kids. I dont think it really matters if you name her with an M or a C or if its a Musician or not. You can always name her June Carter Powell, or that could be too much 🙂 For an M name I personally like Madison because you can call her Maddy and a C name I like Calissa which means most beautiful. But anyway this baby will have a rockin name because she is surrounded with love!! Can’t wait for pictures

  5. I think you should go with a C or K name….my daughter’s name is Kylie, which means “boomerang”, so I know she will always return.

  6. When pregnant with my daughter I found it hard to pick a name. My husband wanted Avery. At first it was ok. However, as her due date grew closer I started to not like the name. I wanted a name that she could have a nick name from. The name Evelyn kept appearing in places where I had never seen it before. For example, Store employees that wore name tags. Bylines in articles of magazines that I never usually read, and since have not read. Everywhere I looked was the name Evelyn. We named out daughter Evelyn and we call her Evey. When she get older (currently 10) she can move over to being called Evelyn. My suggestion is sit back and see what name is reoccurring around you. Your daughter might be telling you what name she wants already. Good Luck!

  7. I had the same problem naming my girl! I didn’t have her name picked out until a wk before she was born!! And I changed my sons name the day he was born. Just go with your gut instinct. I do like the idea of doing another C name but not a musician. I like Cadence, Caris (means grace), carlynne (you can spell this all kinds of ways Carlin, etc), Corbin (some think its a boys name but I like it as either), If you decide to go with something else I like rayelle too. For middle names I like Lynne, or faith, or use your middle name or a family members 🙂 hope this helps!!
