Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. Casey is a cute name. I think Cash might feel left out. I have a nephew whose name starts with a J and he felt a little left out because his sister and 2 brothers names all start with K. Hope this helps! Take care!

  2. So I guess Tanya is out then…LOL! As in Tanya Tucker..which is who I was named after. And I happened to be a November baby myself. A cute, unique girl name can be difficult. When I was pregnant with my son the doctors originally thought he was going to be a girl so I chose Mai Lin which is Vietnamese (since my mom is Vietnamese) but when I was told he was a boy, I had a list of names, Pierce after my great grandfather and a few others I can’t even remember now. I finally settled on Kailen because it was unique. I am glad I chose that name because my son is definitely unique, even tho people pronounce his name wrong, A LOT. He has no problem helping them out to get it right.
For girls names with Ms: I like Madison and for Cs: I like Charleigh. But that’s just me! Good Luck in the baby naming game!

  3. Both our kids were named after characters in movies we liked. Tristan was the movie Legends of the Fall and Gabriel is from the movie Gabriel. You could do a “C” name that can’t be related to anyone famous…does Matix feel left out? Chances are your kids don’t care too much. There’s Cadence (which I love), Cosima, Caitlyn, Cael (pronounced Kale), Caley/Caleigh, Carys(love this one too-it’s my top choice for you), and the traditional Catherine, Christine/Christina. Try them all out and see how they feel to you. Also, when we were trying to pick a name I checked the top baby names and if something we liked was in the top 10 -we nixed it…I was 1 of 15 Heathers in high school graduating class.

  4. I think you need another ‘c’ name Charlotte Grace Powell she would even have a built in nick name (Charli) I also love the name Scarlet for a little girl. Both are great choices 🙂

  5. My name starts with a J, all my siblings start with an R. I joke about being adopted since I don’t fit with the name trend. But, I enjoyed being different, unique within my family(Jessica is in no way unique as a name!).
My daughters are two different letters, but we toyed with S names for the second.
I say use a C name: Carys, Cecilia, Charlotte, Cameron
For M names: Mia, Maya, Mae, Mallory, McKenna(this was my absolute fave name until I married someone whose last name started with Mc)
My favorite girl name: Isabel Vivian (nn: Ivy)
