Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. I think you should choose a C name! My sisters and I all have C names- Caitlyn, Christian, Callan and Camryn. You seem to like somewhat unique names and Callan is definitely unique (We call her Callie for short sometimes). I’m not sure where my mom found it. A few other cute C names are Campbell, Cambry and Cariss. Basically any K name can be made into a C name, as well.
As far as bullying goes, it will happen no matter what you name the baby. The world is cruel! I’ve been teased many times for my name, but I think it has only made me stronger. My parents handled it with grace, which I’m sure is mostly why I was able to handle it.

  2. We have four daughters and their names are unique and carefully chosen. We have a process for names that we developed to avoid teasing and having our children pigeon holed by others. 1. Theme (ours happens to revolve around NHL’s Red Wings) 2. Initials can not form comical or offensive acronyms. 3. Meaning of name must be powerful. 4. Then we research persons having the same name and those with criminal records, public disgrace and even some associated with crimes are eliminated (ex. Lyndsay and Ramsey). 5. We use the middle name to honor someone, thing, or place that is significant to us. Hope this is helpful. P.S. as far as the other children feeling left out, I believe as long you demonstrate equal care in choosing all of their names no one will feel left out.

  3. I love the name Caoilinn (pronounced Keelin)
(Irish), and the meaning of Caoilinn is “fair and slender, pure”.

I like the idea of another “C” name to pair up with Cash. And NOT finding a musician name to keep things fair 😉

congrats! You are an amazing family 🙂

  4. Baby names can be hard. My husband chose Kylie and I chose Hope. So we have a Kylie Hope Rowe. It fits her perfectly. But the name that first popped out to me for your girl was Catherine Faith Powell. Not sure why, it just sounds strong. The second one that jumps out is Cassandra Hope Powell (I think this one jumps out cause it is what I wanted to name my daughter). I just kniw whatever you choose, it will fit your family perfectly.

  5. My husband and I have three girls with the most recent being only 4 weeks ; ) We like names that can be for either sex. Our girls names are Regan Elizabeth, Taylor Nicole, and Ryan Hannah. We also discusses Reese, Riley, and Jordan! I think with such an athletic family a girls name could go either way and people would be like “that totally makes sense for them”. Just a thought! So happy for y’all! Love Extreme Weight Loss! #inspirational!

  6. Agree, would be nice to start with letter C and no one famous. I would go with Cassandra (nickname Cassie). Then you would have Cash and Cassie. Sort of similar 😉

  7. I think you should stay with a “C” name. My choice for you would be Calista – which means Most Beautiful!
