Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. Heidi, I am the only “D” in a family of “M’s” so please choose a “C” name. I’m 46 years old and it still bothers me. Add to that I’m also the middle child, one above and twins below. I hope that clears up one dilemma.
Your kids have all unique names so I’ll assume Christine after daddy won’t be considered. Cassidy or Cassity is pretty common where I live in NY. Courtney is also common. Claire or Clare means “bright”, Chava means “life”, Carissa means “grace”…
If my son David, had been a girl, his name was going to be Christiana Victoria. I wanted a strong biblical name. But your names are shorter and have what I call “flare” which I love!
Good luck on the next chapter of your life. Thanks for your inspirations!

  2. What if u went with a c for first name then m for middle or vice versa! Me personally I have a name that is special to me as my best friend died in a car accident in 04 so I’m putting her name in my baby’s name when I have kids 😉 I’d say go with something your own and not so popular. I’d want to be different. I’m gonna think about it and get back to u but congrats on the baby!!

  3. I LOVE all your kids’ names! It’s a total female thing to sit and pick your unborn/conceived children’s names and then when it comes time to do it – you have no idea (so I’ve heard :0)

I definitely think you need to name her with a “C”. Matix & Marley and then Cash and C_____. And definitely not a muscian’s name so Matix doesn’t feel left out!

The thing about all of your kids’ names is they are so unique and they really could be for either gender. I LOVE names like this, especially when a girl has a name that a boy could have. Your kids are gorgeous and I think it’s awesome when a beautiful girl has a kick-ass, unique “boy” name. I fell in love with the name “Collins” for a girl from the movie, The Blind Side! I think it’s sweet, southern, cute, but has some kick to it!

So..Matix, Marley, Cash and Collins 🙂 I think you should pick a one/two syllable middle name…but make it more girlie so that way it’s known for certain she’s a girl…maybe like…Collins Kathleen Powell 🙂

  4. We are really into using family names so we have a Theresa Rae Schmidt (we call her Rease) and Olivia Frances Schmidt. For some reason, I keep thinking the name Colbie would fit so nicely into your family: Matix, Marley, Cash, and Colbie! If you want the muscician connection, Colbie Caillat! MIddle names are SO hard to suggest because they seem more personal, and I don’t know your family on a personal level! Maybe you could use your Father’s middle name or a name that carries a connection to your father?? Best of Luck to the Powell Pack with Baby Colbie 🙂

  5. I don’t think you have to go with C or M or famous or not famous. You name your child something that you like the sound of. I would assume that CLEARLY the last name of this little girl will be Powell, so I will throw out some suggestions.
    Payton Alexia
    Tenley Rose
    Lydia Loraine
    Charlotte Ann
    Cheyenne Grace
    Kimber Violet
    Savannah Harper
    Sophia Avery
    Avery Katherine
    Claire Elisabeth
    Claire Sophia

Apparently I need to start having babies….

Congratulations!!! Good luck with everything! Have a safe, happy, healthy delivery!!!!

  6. Heidi I think that you should go with a c name and I would suggested Carol . The reason I suggest this name is because it’s not a musician unless you love (Carole king.) but it has a music undertone which seems an important theme . Also cash won’t feel left out and your little bundle put a song in your heart. 😉

  7. I think Linda Ann is a beautiful name!
The name Linda means beautiful and the meaning of the name Ann is Gracious, Merciful!
    Perfect combination!
