Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. Okay, so I definitely think it should start with a C! I really like the name Capri. Calixte would be cool because it has the same kinda sound to tie Matrix and her together but also ties cash and her together with the C thing. Calixte also means beautiful girl, and you could go with Calixte Erinn Powell, or Calixte Rose Powell, Calixte Ashlee Powell.

  2. My first niece just arrived yesterday 🙂 and my sister used both my middle name and our younger sisters middle name Gabrielle grace, which are not only family name because of us but also came from older generations of our family tree. I think it’s really cool to search both family trees to find the names you both love the most, they stand the test of time and are classic. All your children’s names are very sweet and I’m sure shows their individual character 🙂 you say cash will be left out if you don’t name her a c name? But he has Chris 🙂 what if you named her with an H then she will have you 🙂 and then together cash and baby H would be C&H like the sugar brand, Madix and Marley already make M&M’s 🙂 I’m not sure if you think that is cute or lame but each person would have their namesake letter, C&H, M&M, C&H 🙂

  3. I come from a blended family as well. If you definitely go with a C name, will your kids think that you’re labeling them according to birth father? The truth is that all of the doubts and fears are most likely a result of overs analyzing your kids’ reactions. I just know that they will all feel loved no matter what you decide to name them.

I had my baby girl in June. I named her Emmilyn (EMMA-lun). I have always loved this name. We call her Em or Emmi. 🙂 Good luck and congratulations! Just be cautious her 3 initials together can’t bring about taunting as well. Though if it does, having parents such as yourselves, she will handle it no problem.

  4. I love it when kids names interact with each other. I definately think you should go with a C name as well and not after a musician. You could go with a middle name that starts with M to go with Marley and Matix 🙂
    Cordelia Mackenzie Powell
    Cora Mae Powell
    Cora Madeleine Powell
    Or away from the “M”:
    Cordelia Grace Powell
    Cora Camille Power
    Cora Adeline Powell
I think Cora and Cordelia are beautiful names. You’ll do great at picking out names even if you wait to see the precious face of your newborn to name her. As soon as you see her, you will know what her name is! Good luck!!!!

  5. I am not a parent, but always wanted to have a daughter names Autumn. I loved Autumn Michelle for the longest, but over time I fell in love with the name Rebecca Autumn. That is my name I would like to suggest for your little blessing.

  6. I have only met one girl with the name Havilah. I really like Hana (Ha-na, not Hannah). Also, I like Karrigan (from a book series I read a few years ago). Hope these help. What about Camryn (Cameron is the male version).
