Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

Comment away!!!!

  1. We just had a little girl and we named her Hazel May! I have gotten soooo many ooohs and ahhhss over her name 🙂 she also has 2 sisters Kayla Marie and Gracie Madison. All of their middle names start with MA. We nicked named her Hazy.

  2. We named our daughter Heaven Marie. The story behind it is: My grandfather (I was very close to) passed away in 2005 and I had a hard time with it. Well I became pregnant in 2009 and would have really bad days with missing my grandfather. The day after my bad days I would check our mailbox (like I did every day) and we would get a empty envelope with our address and the name Heaven Love. No return address and nothing inside. I believed it was my grandfather telling me everything is ok. So when we found out we were having a girl, it was no question that her name was going to be Heaven. So that’s how my daughter got her name. And just to throw another name out there, I like the name Lyric as well. I also believe that you will know her name when she arrives and you see her. Congrats on baby #4 and thank you guys for all you do. God bless.

  3. Using your logical train of thought, Marley and Cash are musician names, Marley and Matrix are M names, so naturally this needs to be a C name. What’s with Matrix that there can be a similarity? Matrix is a movie. So looking for a C name that’s also a movie. That can be hard, many of the C titled movies that work for a girl are not the same caliber as Matrix. Chloe, Charly, Cherish, Chealsea Walls, Caprice are movie titles with feminine names. Or you can look at it from the mathematical side “Matrix- Mathematics . a rectangular array of numbers, algebraic symbols, or mathematical functions, especially when such arrays are added and multiplied according to certain rules.” So Ceva’s Theorem could work, Ceva could fit well (and sounds better than Congruent ;-).
As for middle names, I don’t know if there is a pattern with the other kids middle names or just something that sounded good with the first name. My first choice would be Ceva Victoria (since you guys encourage victory in others, she’s bound to be victorious).

  4. If my second was a girl she was going to be Alana(pronounced Alayna) and I wanted to call her Laney for short 🙂 (pronounced Lane-E…if that makes sense…lol) Good luck 🙂

  5. Claire would be a great name. I also had Jade, Hannah, Abigail, Violet, Sophia, Sophie, Isabelle, Isabella, and Kalisi on my list. Cali is a good one too

  6. I have been blessed with 2 boys and not having any more. Girls names I love are: Charlotte/Charlie, Sophie, Violet, Scarlett, Stella, Frankie. Good luck with the choice! You and Chris are awesome and I’m sure what you choose will be perfect for your family 🙂
