Baby Name Dilemma

Chris and Heidi Powell are looking for names for their new baby girl - Learn more at https://heidipowell.net/3590

Thanks to my inability to filter this mouth of mine, it is now known that the Powell Pack will be bringing a baby GIRL to this world in November ?. While we are beyond excited (who doesn?t love ruffle buns and bows?), I am totally stressing about one of the most important parts of having a baby: choosing the name!

I am asked on a daily basis if we have names picked out yet. I feel bad answering NO each time, but let?s be honest ? there is some pressure to this decision! A name is important. Once we choose this name for our little girl, she is stuck with it for life ? or at least for18 years, at which point she can go change it if she doesn?t like what we chose. LOL.

Let?s face it: humans are judgmental creatures. If a name is tease-worthy, you better believe that little 6 year old is going to get teased on the playground. What parent in their right mind wants to give a child a name that might add to their risk of getting teased or bullied?

As adults, we also judge based on names. Before we get to know a person, the only bit of info we have to judge by is their name. Some names sound powerful, some sound weak. Some sound prissy, and some sound sassy. Some are boring, some are wacko. As a parent, how can I be sure that the name I choose for this little innocent bundle of joy helps her more than it hurts her?

Oh the joys and stresses of parenthood.

I need your help with some suggestions! Please, please, PLEASE comment here with your baby names. Heck, I?ll even throw in a prize of some sort?I don?t know what yet, but if you throw out a winning name, and you’re the first one to suggest it, I will contact you after the baby is born and send you something awesome ;). Be sure to suggest a first, middle and last name!

Other Things to consider:

Matix and Marley both start with M. Cash is a C (obviously). Does baby #4 need to start with a C? If her name starts with an M, will Cash feel left out?

Marley and Cash both have names that come from famous musicians ? Bob Marley and Johnny Cash. Poor Matix is left out. Will we need to make sure NOT to give baby #4 a name that can be related to a famous musician?

So much to think about. When you share your name suggestion, if there is a significance in why you picked it, be sure to let me know!

    i hope this helps

  2. I took the full 7 mo that I knew I was preg to figure out my D’s name… She has a string yet flexible name with solid initials… My opinion is it does not have to start with a “C” and you are right in not directly linking it to a musician… How about Brianna Olivia Powell, BOP are good initials (she is just BOPping around all the time), it rolls off the tongue nicely and she can manipulate both first and middle for a cool assortment of nicknames… Both are strong names that sound of power and success… yet feminine and girly… Good luck and much love to the Powell Pack ~ Jennifer

  3. I would not worry about Cash feeling left out. Pick a name from the heart. The first name that popped in my head was Hope. You both give so much hope for so many people and she will bring hope and love to your family. Joy is another sweet name with an obvious meaning. Congratulations to you and your family!

  4. I like sticking with the “C” theme. What about Camryn? I’m expecting too (due in December with my 1st!!) and never realized how stressful it is to pick out a name! I really love the name Camryn for a girl, but my cousin has already used it 🙂 Cambrie is also really pretty. Both flow well with Cash, since Matix and Marley have “Ma”.

  5. I’m biased (obviously), but I LOVE my name (Claire). At first I thought it was “old fashioned,” but as I got older, I realized it was a name that had stood the test of time, wasn’t trendy, but was always a solid name. The worst I ever got called in school was “Claire-bear” (which isn’t so bad). Claire means “bright,” and can go with a multitude of middle names (mine is Renee), and matches with Cash well!

  6. If we were to have a girl, we’d go with Grace Evelyn, after our grandmothers. I’m a fan of family names. Where did Matix come from?

  7. We also went with “M” names for our two children. My daughter is Meliah Marie. Pronounced like Malia, just spelt differently. She was named well before Obama’s daughter was known:) It actually has several meanings from different origins but I found it to be beautiful. My daughter is 10 now and she loves her name. She always gets compliments on it. Her middle name was a family tradition. All the women on my mother’s side gave their daughters the middle name Marie. It just goes well together I think:) They are our M&M’s:) Good luck with picking a name!

  8. Mackenna Cassidy Powell sound nice!! Any name you choose, she will be blessed beyond blessed! God Bless you all Powell family!
