In Chantell’s episode of Extreme Weight Loss, she used 2 mason jars and marbles to help her visualize her first goal. One jar held 91 marbles, each representing 1 pound, that she needed to lose, to reach that first milestone. The other, empty, awaiting to be filled!
As she lost each pound, she moved a marble to the second jar, and continued to move marbles from one to the other, as she worked off each and every one of those pounds, helping her visually see her progress. She was literally watching herself lose her marbles! 🙂
Creating a way to help you see how you are doing as you work on a goal can help you see greater success and serve as a reminder of what you are focused on attaining. Keep it where you will walk past it and see it regularly to help you stay on track.
You can fill a jar not only with marbles, but with anything similarly small like decorative rocks or even buttons! Mason jars are inexpensive, and if you don’t have any readily handy, check the goodwill for fun jars and containers to hold “your weight”. I love these darling apothecary jars filled with pebbles! The possibilities are endless as you create a way to visually track your goal. You can even include your favorite motivational quote to give you additional inspiration!

Heidi,
this is a great innovative idea!!! I just may swipe it from you! I have to tell you that you and Chris are such a source of inspiration for me. I don’t have over 100 lbs to lose, but I do have 50 and it’s been a mountain of a climb.
Watching you two on your show and reading on your sites have really encouraged me. I know this is crazy, but I felt undeserving of the weight loss. Many reasons. No need to bore you. I can see and sense your sincerity in everything you do.
I am a registered nurse and know what to do because I discuss good food choices with my patients. I just don’t always practice it, but I have gotten better. My discouragement comes in having hypothyroidism that is difficult to keep in check, and physically at 59 after a two level lumbar fusion and an artificial knee replacement, my body doesn’t always want to cooperate!
Going forward I hope to let you know of the success of my journey! Keep up your good work and I’ll keep plugging along on my walking and use of the elliptical at the gym!
Thanks for all you do!!!
I read this this morning and actually went out to the store and bought the stuff for it. I’m a visual person so on the days I get discouraged I just look at how far I have come and it gives me a little push in the right direction!!! Thanks for the tip!
Love the apothecary jars….now I know what to do with mine!!!
Great idea with the marbles. I am going to use pretty rocks for mine.
Using this idea with inches lost! I know that I will eventually gain weight again because it will be muscle! Cheers to being strong!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!!!!! This could also help my kids get even more involved and help them in their progress too! Thank you!!!
Great Idea… I was on that one right away. I used a simple salsa jar but I love these… way cool. Mine sits on the window sill and I see it all day… Awesome to reward your self with moving your marbles or stones or what have you into another container… Hey! just occurred to me… I should use the Petoskey Stones my mom gathered when she was here… AWESOME… Can’t wait for Saturday to see how many more I can put in there… 🙂
This is a great idea! I track my weight lost in a graph. I put it on the refrigerator. It helps every time I am bored. Instead of grabbing food, I get a drink of water and do 20 minutes on the elliptical.
Love this idea and my fiance and I will be doing this when we start our transformations.
Love this idea and just started my own!
