In Chantell’s episode of Extreme Weight Loss, she used 2 mason jars and marbles to help her visualize her first goal. One jar held 91 marbles, each representing 1 pound, that she needed to lose, to reach that first milestone. The other, empty, awaiting to be filled!
As she lost each pound, she moved a marble to the second jar, and continued to move marbles from one to the other, as she worked off each and every one of those pounds, helping her visually see her progress. She was literally watching herself lose her marbles! 🙂
Creating a way to help you see how you are doing as you work on a goal can help you see greater success and serve as a reminder of what you are focused on attaining. Keep it where you will walk past it and see it regularly to help you stay on track.
You can fill a jar not only with marbles, but with anything similarly small like decorative rocks or even buttons! Mason jars are inexpensive, and if you don’t have any readily handy, check the goodwill for fun jars and containers to hold “your weight”. I love these darling apothecary jars filled with pebbles! The possibilities are endless as you create a way to visually track your goal. You can even include your favorite motivational quote to give you additional inspiration!

I just bought two jars and some marbles today. Hoping to be losing my marbles soon!!
This is awesome! I’m a visual person and this would really help me lose those last 10-15lbs!!! Thanks for the awesome tip!
I bought my jars and marbles last weekend. Now to start moving those marbles into the “lost” jar!
I thought this was such a great idea!! I keep a log book but I don’t have to look at it every day. This way I could just take a glance multiple times a day to remind me!!
I love this idea, especially with the apothecary jars. Talk about instant keepsake, especially with a two sided photo frame with before/after pics. Still working toward “after.” 🙂 22 down/60 to go!
Great motivation! You can see it happen before your eyes! It’s hard you sometime understand or get enjoyment when your working out do hard you see the scale move to take out from to lose and put into the lost has to be an amazing feeling!
This was such a wonderful idea. I’m thinking about using it for my own weight loss goal counter since I don’t have one of my own ;P
This is such a neat, and motivating idea! I remember seeing these jars on Chantell’s episode! Must give it a try!
Loved this idea!
I did get a chance to see the jar on chantells episode, unfortunately someone in my house stopped recording 25 minutes in to watch soccer. I was very unhappy to discover only 25 minutes recorded. 🙁 but I agree it’s a very creative way to track weight loss. I’ve been struggling for 9 months to lose my baby weight and would very much love to win Chris’s book. I know it is going to be autographed by him but if you could autograph it too that would be so exciting. If I win. :/ again, great tip. I will see if I can get my fianc? on board. 🙂
You can watch the episodes at abc.com! Enjoy!
