I know I’m late to the party, but thank you so much for positing this! I’m 8 weeks pregnant with my second child and crossfitting and I already notice a huge difference from my first. I see so much of my own story in yours and it’s inspiring and exciting to know how much my hard work now will pay off in the delivery room!
Labor and delivery for me, the first time, was such a painful and traumatic experience that I wasn’t sure I wanted another child, but crossfit has made me realize I am so much stronger than I thought I was! Thank you again for the example you set!
I crossfitted until I was 30 weeks pregnant with twins. They were born at 33 weeks, happy and healthy (after a few days to pack on pounds in the NICU). I snapped back to pre-pregnancy weight just weeks after their birth–40 lbs in 3 weeks!! Healthy mommy=healthy babies!
I worked out with my 1st up until the day I went to the hospital a week overdue. My labor was a dream and I only pushed for like 10 mins! I think staying in shape helped in all areas. My mood, weight gain, post partum recovery, and L&D. I am now 29 weeks with my 2nd and I have not stopped working out. I am lifting more during this pregnancy and enjoying the benefits of added muscle tone to my arms and legs. It keeps unnecessary fat gain down and makes me feel great. I have even heard that in some cases exersice compensate for poor prenatal care (not that I’m doing that!) It’s great to see women like you who continue to train and workout in a healthy way during pregnancy!
Heidi,
I am 12 weeks pregnant and plan on crossfitting throughout my pregnancy! I would love any tips u have….especially about weight amounts!! I want to be careful, but still stay strong:-) Thanks!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this! I don’t crossfit but I go to BodyPump and BodyAttack classes. In my first pregnancy I had pre eclampsia. So starting in December 2012 I went on a mission to help me get healthy and prepare for my next pregnancy. I lost 25 pounds (I’m now 17 pounds lighter than my 1st pre – pregnancy weight) and so much healthier! Despite all of the changes I am still nervous to get pregnant again. But your experience helps me feel confident if I don’t eat like crazy like I did with my first and continue my exercise then the chances of me having a healthy pregnancy are greater. Thank you for sharing!
Heidi you are amazing!! When I was pregnant with my firstborn my first OB told me that I could run during pregnancy. And you just proved to us women that you don’t HAVE to stop exercising when we are pregnant! Had I found you and Chris as my go to people to refer to on my weight lose journey, before I would have just said, that’s between you and your doctor! But you proved to me as a mom of 8,that it CAN be done!
I am absolutely for working out during pregnancy as long as you have your doctor’s OK. It’s very important to be active and moving while pregnant. It is so much better for Mom and baby! I worked as an inner office messenger when pregnant and got a lot of exercise on the job. Pregnancy was good and labor was trouble free and natural. If you’re used to workouts go for it!!! You’re a great example- Heidi as well as an inspiration!!!!
