Out of all of the wonderful roles I have been given?wife, friend, daughter, sister, trainer?there is one that stands out far above the rest?my role as a mother. I have been so blessed with 4 beautiful children that I get to love, teach, and nurture every single day, and for that I am beyond grateful. But my role as a ?mom? doesn’t stop there.
During different seasons of my life, as have many of you, I have had the amazing opportunity to be mom to so many! From my EWL peeps, to nieces and nephews, and everything in between. Being a mother is surely not bound by labor and delivery?it means so much more! From dads who have stepped into the role of ?mom? due to various circumstances, to women who have struggled with infertility but have been blessed with children through the miracle of adoption, and of course those who have shown endless love to children and friends around them providing the selflessness and care that is prerequisite for motherhood. Regardless of what ?mom? looks like for you, there is one common thread?unconditional love. And oftentimes that unconditional love means sacrificing our own personal needs for those around us.
While we love those we take care of and the things we get to do?whether it?s at home, or at work, or both?it?s also crucial that we ?moms? take care of ourselves. Yes?eating healthy and exercising regularly are so important, but often overlooked (and just as important) is taking some time for some R&R?Rest and Relaxation.
I know so many of you, myself included, feel like there just aren?t enough hours in the day as it is?so adding some daily R&R doesn?t even seem possible! Believe me, I?m right there with you. But I also know that when I do get it, even if it?s only for a few minutes, my outlook on life and how I handle the stresses in my life, improves in some pretty amazing ways:
- Reduces those stresses, and since long-term stress can cause so many health issues, getting rid of as much as I can is so important.
- Lessens anxiety.
- Boosts my mood. Those around me really appreciate that one! 😉
- Helps me remember things better. That?s a definite plus!
- Improves my ability to focus, which means it takes less time to do what I need to do, and I make better decisions.
- Helps curb cravings.
- Boosts my confidence.
- Reduces anger and frustration. Chris and my kiddos are very thankful for this one. 😉
- Helps my whole body, including my mind, repair itself = a stronger me!
The benefits of daily, or even weekly, R&R are so far reaching, that they vastly outweigh the cons of taking a personal timeout! As mothers, it is our duty to be there for the ones we love, and if we don?t carve out some time for ourselves now, we may end up limiting our capabilities in the future!
To get you started on your new path to a more healthful, restful lifestyle, I?m giving away one $100 gift card to a local day spa of the winner?s choosing! To enter, simply (1) comment below with why YOU need a mama?s day out, (2) share this post on social media channels and tag me, and (3) follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. A winner will be chosen Tuesday, May 5th. Good luck?and if you aren?t the lucky winner make sure you still take the time to celebrate motherhood and honor the amazing role you?ve been given through some good old fashioned relaxation. We ALL deserve it!
Xoxo,
Heidi

I’m doing this for my sister Caroline. Yesterday she miscarried at 11 weeks and is very upset. She has 6 children, so as yiu can imagine, she rarely gets time to herself and she coukd do with a break – some well deserved R & R. Caroline lives in Woodbury MN and I live in Australia. I would love to be there for her but unfortunately i’m not able to. She is such a wonderful mum really deserves this.
I am a mom of SIX wonderful children. Ages ranging from almost 18 years old down to my set of 3 1/2 year old twins.
I tell people often….”You want stress?? I have toddlers AND teenagers”.
Being their mom has been the biggest blessing, and the biggest struggle I have ever faced in my life. You constantly worry if you are doing things right for them.
I work full time, care for my kids, and my husband and my home. Its a tough job, but somebodies gotta do it.
Some people call me Wonder woman….and I often just Wonder Why??
I have never even had a massage. Let alone a spa day. And this would make my Mothers Day…let alone my year!!!!
As a devoted wife and mother of four, I need a mom’s day out to clock out! I think I might feel guilty at first, but then realize the value of this refresher for myself and for my family! It’s needed for me, a stay at home, working, homeschooling mom to break away more than I realize. I feel I need to be around with my 10, 8, 6, and 4 year old since we are not near any family, but all day I spend schooling, working, hand washing dishes, and cook nearly all 21 meals a week from scratch (we ditched processed/junk foods). My husband and I never get to clock out. Honestly, I would hope for him to have a spa day too. I appreciate this giveaway and thank you for your consideration!

My oldest child, a son, is leaving for boot camp for the Army National Guard this coming week. I am so proud of him for his courage and desire to serve our great nation but I am so very sad to see him go. I certain that a moms day out will be needed to relieve some of the stress I feel right now.
I would love a mommy spa day to get my hair done. I get it cut once a yeae, sometimes twice if I’m lucky. We sacrifice luxuries to provide a good school and healthy lifestyle for our kids, so a little pampering would be highly enjoyed and long overdue! 🙂
Im a very busy mom of 3 little one (7,2 and 1) I work a high stressful job in the medical field and I got to school full time. It doesn’t stop there either. Even though I get so much help and support from my husband I still manage to take my oldest to her many extracurricular sports and activies to squeeze and fit into my already busy life. So what I’m saying is I don’t even remember the last time I went our or had a “me” time. I would love to just have 1 day to do that.
Hey Heidi, I would totally love this spa giveaway card. A few reasons why would be because since I was pregnant my sons father has been giving me a hard time and bearly if any helps me with my son, not that I need it but I’ve been working full time and going to school ever since. He was abussive so that left me messed up emotionally mainly because he would bring me down because of my weight… Just a year ago I started to go on my weight loss journey… I had lost 40 lbs and when I entered college everything went downhill. I started eating like I used to and I was to stressed. I was get sharp pelvic pains so I really just let meself go… I was recently diagnosed with Pcos (last month) which kind of explained why it was so hard for me to lose weight. A day after I was diagnosed I decided it was time for me to step up my game. I’ve been going to the gym a lot and eating healthy so far I’ve lost 10 lbs.
Well back to student/worker life, I feel I over do it with everything I do but I know that it’s the best for my son.
It makes me sad when I tell him I have to go to school because he wants to keep playing with me. I see him a few hours in the day and when I get home he’s sleeing. I’ve done so much for my little guy and I will counting to do so.
He came into my life right when I planned on giving up on school. He came to change my life and for that I’m thankful. I don’t know where I would be without him.
He defines me and I’m proud to be called his mother. My parents doubted me in so many things but when I finished everything that I had to do all that brought a smile to my face was seeing my son smiling right back at me. I know this is way to long and all over the place but I turned all emotional when I started writing this.
I think I would benefit from an R&R day simply because I really haven’t had one since my son was born! I love being a mommy so much that I honestly forget about myself, not intentionally it just happens. I think a day away to get pampered would help me reset and keep going for another year! I love my job as a mommy and couldn’t dream of doing anything else!
since moving 2 years ago, it’s been hard to get away for R&R. I’m a mother of 4 as well and don’t have help here like I did before the move. We moved away from my friends and family and the kids friends which makes us rely on each other for everything. My husband is great at encouraging us to make new lives but sometimes I just need a day of pampering.
I would love to win this and give it to my mom. She is a massage therapist and works all day, everyday helping others feel better and more relaxed and she NEVER does anything for herself. She always puts everyone else before herself, even people she doesn’t know. She is the most supportive in my life and I would absolutely love to give her this if I win. Happy Mother’s Day Heidi! Thank you for always being such in inspiration. 🙂
