Meet the Powells: Where Do We Get Our Energy From?

From the outside, it may appear that Chris and I have these crazy-unlimited reserves of energy on tap and ready for use at all times!! In fact, we have gotten several questions over the past year asking how?we have as much energy to do what we do with 4 kids, workouts, EWL, other work projects, and everyday life in general. The answer to that question is simple, yet one you may not expect. Check out the video below to see where this magical energy comes from,? or if we even have any at all!

    1. So anyway that mile was timed when I was 13. My PE teacher didn’t believe her stopwatch. She made me do it again. I repeated my time again. The next day our local High School Track Coach came to my school and I was asked to run again. Same rules occurred I was encouraged to join high school track team,my parents divorced I ran away from home at 15 and married my High School sweetheart, who majored in engineering. Lucky for me I was involved in a crowd who had higher inspirations. His infidelity secondary to our maturity delivered my divorce on a platter. I found myself seeking love in all the wrong directions. So here I am, 45 years old still desiring that high from running fast, enjoying the fact that I cold back then. Knowing that I’m out of shape now,but totally capable. I’m ready to shine for my daughter if nothing else. So she too, should she encounter the bullshit I’ve allowed, that could affect her choices, her daily outcomes, her overall decision making because of my lack of showing her better:I am determined from this moment forward, will not be tolerated. So here I am Chris and Heidi, I guess this is my letter. OHH MY GOODNESS, I’ve been thinking gabout this for 2 years now. I truly am totally out of shape and I HATE IT. I was number one in everything. The most important thing to me is my children. I feel I have failed with my son. HE IS 26,extremely bright enough units for bachelor’s, He has currently applied to UC BERKELEY for master program, plan is to work for NASA. Gosh,he is soooo smart. My 11yr old little desires to be an oral surgeon. I mean who expresses that at 11? MAMA,has got to get it together. I feel fitness is the answer. I came from that, need help finding my way back to it. PLEASE HELP Mr

    2. Hi Danette: Casting for EWL is currently closed, but you can begin your transformation journey today with the info I shared in response to your first comment. You really can do this! And it sounds like you have amazing kids! 🙂

    3. Hi Danette: Chris and Heidi’s carb cycling program could definitely help you reach your transformation goals, and you can learn about the basics of their program in this blog post: https://heidipowell.net/9060. As for kids, it’s best to work with their healthcare team for any nutrition and exercise program since they are still growing. You can do this! 🙂

  2. I admire your work , always watch the program ” kilo per kilo ” thank God not need to lose weight, but you encourage me to have a healthy life, your family is beautiful, God bless you always .
    I’m from Brazil , hugs …

  3. I just started the Turbo cycle today. i’very had my 4 meals so far and I still need to get in over 500 calories in one meal. Help.

    1. Hi Tina: You might want to double check your portion sizes and make sure you’re getting in all the part of your meals: High-carb = protein, carb, and veggies (the non-root/non-starchy type), and low-carb = protein, healthy fat, and veggies. There’s an awesome graphic in this post (as well as some other helpful info) that shows you how to put all your meals together, and that might help too: heidipowell.net/4514. Hope that helps! 🙂

  4. Heidi, I have been using your plan and have lost 10 lbs. I am using the products that you and Chris recommend. Now that the Vemma products can not be ordered (I have been using the Shake mix, Bod-e Burn and the cleanse), do you have any suggestions on replacements for the 3 products?

    1. Hi Dawn: As far as protein shakes, look for whey-based powders with between 15-20 grams of protein and less than 5 grams of carbs per serving. This would be a protein serving. Add a carb and veggies for a high-carb meal, and a fat and veggies for a low-carb meal. And congrats on losing those 10 pounds – that’s awesome!

  5. Hey Heidi hav a question . I just got an elliptical because I get tired of the treadmill and my husband uses it . People telll me if I use a high resistancei t will make my legs bigger I have allot of muscle in my legs but there is some fat to . I don’t want to build any more muscle . My elliptical has a weight loss program on it and the resistance goes to a 3 then to a 4and a 6. Do I need to do resistance will it burn fat or build muscle . Also is the elliptical a good cardio machine to use .. can you tell me also a good nutrition plan for a nights shift worker . Im not sure how to eat because of the way I work . Thank you so much ..

    1. Hi Gina: Thank you for your comment! The elliptical is a great form of cardio! And I wouldn’t worry too much about building too much muscle using the elliptical. You build bigger muscles through heavy weight and lower reps, so that shouldn’t be a problem on the elliptical. If you’re concerned, go for a lower resistance, still change up your resistance, and workout longer. And Chris and Heidi have an awesome nutrition component in their carb cycling program – learn more about it here: heidipowell.net/2713. You can do this!

  6. I love watching and listening to you both! I think you both have tons of energy. I was wondering what type of nutrition system you guys use? I don’t struggle exercising, it’s the nutrition piece which is a struggle. Just wondering what you guys recommend? Thanks

    1. Hi Cherie: Chris and Heidi have an awesome nutrition program as part of the their carb cycling program. You can learn more here: heidipowell.net/2713. 🙂

  7. Thank you for sharing these messages. The energy and the presence you both have shows the passion you practice and the purpose you live. It’s certainly a challenge to have that personal/professional life balance and you two have mastered the art of creating abundance in your life. Simply inspiring. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  8. Heidi I seen your FB post today I think of you boxing/punching bag with Chris. I heard on TV that 4 mins of this exercise (punching as hard as you can for 20 sec then best for 10 sec then an outer 20 sec rep for a total of 4 mins) is equvilent to 40 mins of treadmill walking as far as a cardio workout goes. Can you confirm if that sounds about right?.

    1. Hi Cindy: How many calories you’ll burn/the type of cardio workout you’ll get during any workout depends on your weight, muscle mass, and workout intensity, so there’s really not a one-size-fits-all answer. The most important thing is to work out regularly, try intervals, and burn those calories!
